Hawaiian chicken, rice, rolls and brownies
July Reflection
Communication with Abbey: When I talked with Abbey this month, she said they didn’t have a meeting this month since school was out (they usually have meetings before school), but she called all the girls and asked for meal suggestions and they decided to make Hawaiian chicken, which is a family recipe of one of the girls. Abbey let me know she was the one doing the shopping and that she expected everyone to be there to cook except for Roni, who she hadn’t heard from. So far this is the only issue she has run into (not being able to communicate with Roni) and I told her to let me know if it continued to be an issue for her or if it was a one time thing and we would deal with it accordingly.
Communication with Mrs. Keith and Joyce: This month I introduced the project to Mrs. Keith and she let me know that we would be able to be reimbursed through Key Club funding. as long as we followed the correct process, so I passed this information and the steps to do so along to the girls when I saw them at the meal. Since we just started the project and school wasn’t in session yet, there was no need to check that service hours were being recorded corre3ctly at this time. Unfortunately, Joyce was on vacation both when I called and when we delivered the meal, and so I wasn’t able to talk with her this month. I also am calling a couple days after each meal to see what the residents reaction is—the first one was much appreciated by everyone.
Meal: Five girls came over to cook the meal (Abbey, Mackenzie, Megan, Molly and Rachel—still no Roni) and it went pretty smoothly. Some of the time was spent learning where the utensils and other things were in my kitchen and how to use the appliances. We quickly realized we would have to have really good communication since there were six of us in one room so that we didn’t bump into each other or spill anything. Towards the end of the meal, we became more effective at this; Abbey would let the girls know where we were at in the meal and what still needed to be done, and someone would step up and say which job they were doing, which helped avoid having multiple people trying to do the same task. All in all, it was a pretty successful mean and we are starting to get the hang of how to work together—I think it will go a lot smoother next month!
Reflection: There was not much to do with the timeline yet since there has only been one meal, but I recorded the date, what we made and who was there to use once I start to put the timeline together. I also typed up the recipe we used and saved it; I haven’t done anything else yet since I haven’t talked to Joyce.
