Spaghetti and meatballs with garlic bread, salad and banana pudding with crushed vanilla wafers
October Reflection
Communication with Abbey: Abbey let me know that the meeting went well and everyone was present for at least part of the meeting—some girls on student council had to leave early but stayed long enough to give the dates they could make it and gave their input about the meal and they let the other girls make the final decisions. It was a busy month for all of the girls and so Abbey took on the responsibility of shopping for this month.
Communication with Mrs. Keith and Joyce: Again I just let Mrs. Keith know what we had been up to and she let me know that she was keeping up with recording the service hours. I asked the girls to let me know if they were correct once they got their first quarter report card. Tory had talked to Joyce since last month and I was able to briefly talk to Joyce when we dropped off the food, but she did not have a firm answer for me yet. I’m a little frustrated I haven’t gotten an answer but I am glad that i’m making progress with it. I’ve still been calling a couple days after the meal to see what the residents thought about the food and so far they are really loving all of the recipes we have made and are really appreciative.
Meal: The girls started with the banana pudding today because when Abbey went shopping, she got some extra banana pudding so we could all have a quick after-school snack, which was very sweet of her—it was really good! We then did the meatballs since everything else was pretty quick and easy. Once we opened up the package of meatballs, we saw there was A LOT more than we had planned to make, but we made them all anyway—which was good, because they are Mackenzie’s favorite food and she snagged some of the extras. Roni was, again, not there because of work. I told Abbey to remind Roni how important it was to let Abbey know which dates she was free, but beyond that there was nothing to do; it will be on Roni to figure out how she will meet her service hour requirement if she leaves it until the last minute.
Reflection: I’m really disappointed that Roni wasn’t there again because it really doesn’t take much time and it’s fun. I also love how for a lot of the girls, it’s not filling a service requirement but simply a way to give back to their community.
