Week 6 Research, Reflection and Goals
Notes: I didn't get to test patterns as much as I had hoped last week, but I made some small test tiles that I stamped patterns onto and then fired in a raku kiln to give it a metallic look (images left). I also worked with some more techniques that I had mentioned in an earlier week's research that involved glazing (images left, right and below with captions). I am so glad that I have this extra time to create some work without requirements or having deadlines that I need to follow, and it's nice to be able to focus solely on ceramics and not have another studio to worry about.
Research: This week I spent a couple hours reading through Salt-Glaze Ceramics which, while interesting, I will unfortunately not be able to test out in the kilns at the studio space I am working at over the summer. Salt glaze kilns are also not something that we do in DAAP, so I think I will need to do some further research and find a place in town that has the capability to fire pieces that are to be salt-glazed. Goals for the upcoming week: Work on throwing larger pieces. |
