Fish filets on buns, fries, fruit bowl and blueberry muffins
March Reflection
Communication with Abbey: Abbey and I talked a lot this month because we rescheduled the meal a couple times. We originally had it planned for the week before, but it was McAuley’s luau that sponsors the Make-A-Wish Foundation and many of the girls wanted to go (which was a great thing!) and so we decided to push it back a week. Abbey texted me the Tuesday before and said since it was Good Friday, a lot of the girls had told her last minute they would be unable to come. I asked if she wanted me to find a couple of my friends to help out as well but she said she would be able to get a big enough group together.
Communication with Mrs. Keith and Maura: This month was again just a quick update to Mrs. Keith and I let her know we were working on transferring the project to next year. I asked Maura about putting the recipes online and she said that it was a really great idea and she would love to but they did not have access to the website at this point; the woman who had made the website left, and then got Alzheimer’s and couldn’t remember the password. Maura said they were working on it but if I could think of any way to help or any solution to just let her know. I am definitely going to make them a hard copy and deliver it in April or May, and am thinking about putting the girls’ reflections in the back as well just so those at Grace Place know how much the project means to them as well.
Meal: When Abbey told me the rescheduled date, I told her to call and double check just because it was Good Friday. Grace Place said they would love to have us, so it worked out great. There were only three girls, Abbey, Mackenzie and Abby, so I helped out a little more than usual. Abbey wanted to celebrate the last week of Lent and so decided to make fish and “chips” (fries). I was really glad she thought to get fruit, because that is something we haven’t been great about incorporating into every meal. The blueberry muffins were also a nice change and healthy option for dessert. Even though there were only a few of us, the meal was fairly easy to make and we worked efficiently together. We took the meal over a little earlier than usual since we got done early and the girls wanted to get home to their families.
Reflection: I think that for such a small group of girls, we got a lot done and were able to manage our time really well. I’m also really pleased with how the meal planning is going well and feel we are incorporating a good variety of food groups and making healthy choices with our food. Next month we are really going to have to focus on making the switch to next year and getting everything in place. I’m trying to think of a solution for their website problems, but so far am at a loss for an idea.
