Grace Place, for me, started out not as a choice, but as a last choice. My schedule in the beginning of the year was hectic, leaving no room for relaxation, let alone an ongoing service project. Pulling a few strings, talking to teachers and rearranging my whole schedule finally left a time slot- Friday afternoons. I jumped at the chance to join Grace Place, although my initial vindications for doing so I admit were more for my own benefit then for the good of others. Come second semester of school and my schedule has opened up, but I still continue on with Grace Place. After that first meeting I was hooked; not only were we helping people who needed us, but the girls are so enthused and cheerful that my whole demeanor has changed from “Let’s get this over with,” to “Let’s get started!” Through Grace Place, I have not only grown to feel more connected to the people I’m helping, but also closer to the girls I’m working with on this amazing service.
